Insights
Enterprise plan only
The Insights feature requires a Uniform Enterprise plan. Please contact your Uniform representative to provision your project with this feature.
In a composable architecture the tools that manage content and experiences are separate from the tools that measure them, which makes everyday questions hard to answer:
- How is the test I launched last week performing?
- Which variation is winning, and has it reached statistical significance?
- Which personalization variation is performing best against the baseline?
- Which pages should I be optimizing?
Uniform Insights collects anonymized visitor data from your Uniform-enabled site and makes it available in the Uniform dashboard within seconds, without leaving the workspace, opening GA4, or waiting on an analyst. See the Insights capability page for what it offers and why teams use it.
Where you see the data#
The same data appears in three places, each suited to a different question.
- The Insights dashboard is the project-wide view: sessions, conversion rate, top pages, visitor segments, and the tests and personalizations currently running.
- The Insights tab in the composition editor shows per-variation performance for a single A/B test or personalization, right next to the content it measures.
- Scout answers questions about the same data in plain language, including ones the dashboard has no widget for.
What data is collected#
The tracking plugin records seven event types, all of them anonymous:
| Event | When it fires |
|---|---|
| Session start | A visitor's first activity, or their first activity after 30 minutes of inactivity |
| Page hit | The visitor navigates to a new URL or composition |
| Test result | A test placement is evaluated and a variation is shown. The variation is assigned once and stored on the visitor; later evaluations reuse it and are still recorded |
| Personalization result | A personalization placement is resolved and its selected variations are shown. One event is recorded per selected variation |
| Goal conversion | A signal configured as a conversion goal is triggered |
| Segment updated | A signal, audience, or intent score changes |
| Enrichment updated | An enrichment strength changes |
Each event carries an anonymous visitor ID, a session ID, and a page view ID, alongside the composition it happened on, any dynamic input values, and standard web metadata: user agent, locale, time zone, referrer, and pathname.
Data collection
Insights does not collect personally identifiable information. Visitor and session identifiers are generated on the device and are not linked to any identity.
Tracking only starts once the visitor has granted consent through Uniform Context, and is disabled while a page is being viewed in the Uniform contextual editor, so your own editing sessions never appear in the data.
Data residency#
You choose which region collects and stores your data.
Projects in the North America region send events to https://analytics.uniform.global and store them in the United States.
The tracking host for your project is included in the environment variables that page hands you.
Permissions#
Access to Insights is controlled by two permissions, granted through roles. Team admins have both.
- View insights is required to open the Insights dashboard and the Insights tab in the composition editor, and to let Scout query analytics data.
- Manage insights is required to generate and delete tracking tokens, and to configure a signal as a conversion goal.
Frequently asked questions#
Do I need Google Analytics for this?
No. Insights is standalone and can run alongside your existing analytics tools rather than replacing them.
Can I enable Insights for a single project?
Yes. Insights is activated per project, so you can start with one and expand later.
Can I use my existing data layer or GA events to measure conversions?
Yes. Uniform signals can be triggered from your data layer, and signals are what Insights uses to calculate conversion. See measure conversions.
Do I have to send events directly to Uniform's tracking domain?
No. You can route them through an API route in your own application instead. See using your own tracking proxy.
Can I get dedicated infrastructure for my organization?
Yes, on Enterprise plans. Contact support or your Uniform account representative.
