When Scout makes edits, they are assigned to you as the current user and integrated into your normal workflow. Scout works exclusively with draft content, ensuring you maintain full control over publishing decisions.

Where is Sage?

When Uniform's AI agents launched in late 2024, we had two specialized agents: Scout for experience optimization and Sage as a SEO specialist.

Based on early user feedback and to simplify your workflow, we decided to unite their powers into a single AI agent. Scout has taken on all of Sage's capabilities, so you get the best of both agents in one place.

Ensure your team has AI credits available to use Scout.

Once credits have been allocated, you should see Scout available in the global navigation bar.

In case your team has no AI credits then reach out to your Account Representative from Uniform.

Access Scout from any of these locations:

  • Global navigation bar: Click the Scout icon to open Scout from anywhere in Uniform
  • Component inserter dialog: Invoke Scout from the component inserter dialog by describing what you want to add to a slot.
  • Component highlighter menu: Invoke Scout from the personalization and testing menu for AI-assisted personalization and testing

Scout's interface adapts to your workflow with three modes:

  • Pinned mode: Pin Scout to the right side of your screen to keep it visible while you work

  • Full screen mode: Expand Scout to full screen for focused conversations

  • Overlay mode: Access Scout as an overlay from the global navigation bar

Scout supports multiple conversations to help you organize your work:

  • Create multiple chats: Start separate conversations for different tasks or projects
  • Access previous chats: Return to earlier conversations and continue where you left off. You can access recent chats from the global navigation bar or by opening the chat history from the chat interface.
  • Rename conversations: Give your chats descriptive names to stay organized. You can rename a conversation by clicking the "Rename" option in the menu of the conversation name in the chat history.
  • Delete conversations: Clean up chats you no longer need

Conversations follow you as you navigate through Uniform, and Scout maintains context about where you are and what you're working on.

note

Conversation history is private to each user. Your chats are not shared with other team members.

As you navigate through Uniform, Scout automatically receives context about:

  • The composition, entry, or pattern you're currently editing
  • Your project's components, content types, and patterns
  • The active locale

This automatic context helps Scout provide more relevant and accurate assistance.

You can upload files in chats to provide Scout with additional context:

  • Documents: Upload PDF or Markdown files (1MB file size limit) to add their content to the chat context
  • Images: Upload images for Scout to interpret and analyze (images larger than 1MB will be compressed)

For even better content suggestions, configure AI guidance on your components and content types. AI guidance helps Scout understand your content requirements and generate more accurate suggestions tailored to your specific needs.

Scout helps you understand and review your content models:

  • List, view, and describe all content types, components, and their definitions
  • Suggest improvements for content types, components, and patterns (naming, structure, reusability, field grouping)
  • Explain field and parameter types and recommend best practices
  • Advise on content relationships (references, linking entries)

Scout assists with creating and modifying your content:

  • Create new compositions (including attaching them to project map nodes)
  • Create new entries from content types or entry patterns
  • Edit existing compositions and entries (fields, parameters, slots)
  • Add component instances to compositions based on natural language prompts
  • Duplicate or move component instances within compositions
  • Add, remove, or reorder components in slots
  • Edit most field and parameter types using natural language
  • Use natural language to select content for reference fields, assets for asset fields, and values for enrichment fields
  • Set metadata overrides for attached assets on asset parameters (e.g. for translations)
  • Save content when prompted or automatically on creation

Scout helps you work with existing patterns:

  • List, filter, and search for all pattern types (component patterns, composition patterns, entry patterns)
  • Edit existing component patterns, composition patterns, and entry patterns
  • Guide on using and overriding pattern values for partial content reuse
  • Create and manage pattern instances:
    • Override pattern parameters
    • Update pattern data resources from pattern instances for Uniform entry-based data types (e.g. select a Product entry for a Product card pattern)

Scout helps you manage multilingual content:

  • List and explain available locales in your project
  • Enable or disable locales for compositions, entries, and patterns
  • Translate content between locales

note

Scout cannot create or manage editions, but can edit content within existing editions.

Scout provides recommendations to improve your digital experiences:

Scout assists with creating personalized experiences and A/B tests:

  • List and describe signals, intents, audiences, enrichments, and quirks
  • Create new signals using query string or quirk criteria
  • Configure personalizations with audience-based variants for any component
  • Set up A/B testing (test variants, traffic split, default variant)
  • Declare winners for A/B tests
  • Manage enrichments for compositions or individual enrichment fields
  • SEO tools: Generate SEO reports, automatically fix issues, set and update meta tags
  • Social media: Generate open-graph social previews for any composition
  • Accessibility: Suggest improvements for accessibility (A11y) and performance
  • Content optimization: Provide SEO-friendly content suggestions for parameters
  • Metadata management: Advise on metadata, slugs, and URL structure
  • Analytics: View page performance analytics including traffic and conversion rates (requires Uniform Insights integration)

Scout can help you navigate and understand Uniform:

  • Answer questions about Uniform concepts, features and best practices
  • Link to relevant documentation for deeper learning
  • Explain the Uniform platform structure (team, project, navigation)
  • Guide you to the right section or page
  • Explain listing page features (filters, views, pagination)
  • Help understand the Visual editor interface (structure panel, preview, property panels)

While Scout is powerful, there are certain tasks it cannot perform. Understanding these limitations helps you work more effectively.

Scout can review and suggest improvements but cannot modify your content model:

  • Cannot create or update component definitions
  • Cannot create or update content type definitions

For AI-assisted experience modeling, use the MCP Server.

Scout works exclusively with draft content:

  • Cannot publish content (all work remains in draft state)
  • Cannot manage workflows or transition content between workflow stages
  • Cannot add or remove content from Uniform Releases or change release settings (locking, scheduling)

Scout can reference assets but cannot manage them:

  • Cannot create, upload, edit, or delete assets
  • Cannot create new assets from uploaded files

Scout cannot create new patterns: component patterns, composition patterns, or entry patterns. You must create the initial pattern before Scout can help refine it.

Scout cannot edit these specific field and parameter types:

  • Block type fields/parameters
  • Image URL fields

Several advanced features require manual configuration:

  • Cannot create complex signals, audiences, intents, or quirks (only simple query string signals)
  • Cannot set visibility rules on component instances
  • Cannot edit conditional values on parameters or fields (only default values can be edited)
  • Cannot manage or change data sources, data types, or data resources
  • Cannot manage integrations
  • Cannot create new Loop component instances

Administrative tasks remain manual:

  • Cannot manage project settings or team-level settings
  • Cannot manage user permissions or roles
  • Cannot handle billing, licensing, or sales questions

To maximize Scout's effectiveness:

  • Be specific and detailed: Provide clear, detailed descriptions of what you want to accomplish
  • Provide context: Use natural language to explain the purpose and goals of your content
  • Use AI guidance: Configure AI guidance on your components and content types for more accurate suggestions
  • Review before saving: Always review Scout's suggestions and content edits to ensure they meet your needs and are correct
  • Leverage conversation history: Use your chat history to track your work and continue previous tasks
  • Upload relevant documents: Provide additional context by uploading relevant PDFs or Markdown files

Stay organized by using Scout's conversation features:

  • Create separate chats for different tasks or projects
  • Rename conversations with clear, descriptive titles
  • Keep related work in the same conversation to maintain context and continuity

Make the most of Scout's optimization capabilities:

  • Ask Scout to run SEO analysis on your pages for actionable improvements
  • Request accessibility improvements and performance suggestions
  • Get recommendations for content structure and organization
