Scout - Uniform's AI agent
Who is Scout?#
Scout is an AI-powered assistant integrated directly into Uniform that understands your project structure, components, content types, and patterns. Scout acts on your behalf to help you work more efficiently across various tasks, from creating and editing content to optimizing experiences and configuring personalization.

When Scout makes edits, they are assigned to you as the current user and integrated into your normal workflow. Scout works exclusively with draft content, ensuring you maintain full control over publishing decisions.
Where is Sage?
When Uniform's AI agents launched in late 2024, we had two specialized agents: Scout for experience optimization and Sage as a SEO specialist.
Based on early user feedback and to simplify your workflow, we decided to unite their powers into a single AI agent. Scout has taken on all of Sage's capabilities, so you get the best of both agents in one place.
Getting started#
Prerequisites#
Ensure your team has AI credits available to use Scout.
Once credits have been allocated, you should see Scout available in the global navigation bar.
In case your team has no AI credits then reach out to your Account Representative from Uniform.
Accessing Scout#
Access Scout from any of these locations:
- Global navigation bar: Click the Scout icon to open Scout from anywhere in Uniform
- Component inserter dialog: Invoke Scout from the component inserter dialog by describing what you want to add to a slot.
- Component highlighter menu: Invoke Scout from the personalization and testing menu for AI-assisted personalization and testing
Chat interface modes#
Scout's interface adapts to your workflow with three modes:
Pinned mode: Pin Scout to the right side of your screen to keep it visible while you work
Scout chat interface in pinned modeFull screen mode: Expand Scout to full screen for focused conversations
Scout chat interface in full screen modeOverlay mode: Access Scout as an overlay from the global navigation bar

Working with Scout#
Managing conversations#
Scout supports multiple conversations to help you organize your work:
- Create multiple chats: Start separate conversations for different tasks or projects
- Access previous chats: Return to earlier conversations and continue where you left off. You can access recent chats from the global navigation bar or by opening the chat history from the chat interface.
- Rename conversations: Give your chats descriptive names to stay organized. You can rename a conversation by clicking the "Rename" option in the menu of the conversation name in the chat history.
- Delete conversations: Clean up chats you no longer need
Conversations follow you as you navigate through Uniform, and Scout maintains context about where you are and what you're working on.
note
Conversation history is private to each user. Your chats are not shared with other team members.
Automatic context updates#
As you navigate through Uniform, Scout automatically receives context about:
- The composition, entry, or pattern you're currently editing
- Your project's components, content types, and patterns
- The active locale
This automatic context helps Scout provide more relevant and accurate assistance.
Uploading files for context#
You can upload files in chats to provide Scout with additional context:
- Documents: Upload PDF or Markdown files (1MB file size limit) to add their content to the chat context
- Images: Upload images for Scout to interpret and analyze (images larger than 1MB will be compressed)
Configure AI guidance#
For even better content suggestions, configure AI guidance on your components and content types. AI guidance helps Scout understand your content requirements and generate more accurate suggestions tailored to your specific needs.

Content modeling#
Scout can review and suggest improvements but cannot modify your content model:
- Cannot create or update component definitions
- Cannot create or update content type definitions
For AI-assisted experience modeling, use the MCP Server.
Publishing and content workflows#
Scout works exclusively with draft content:
- Cannot publish content (all work remains in draft state)
- Cannot manage workflows or transition content between workflow stages
- Cannot add or remove content from Uniform Releases or change release settings (locking, scheduling)
Asset management#
Scout can reference assets but cannot manage them:
- Cannot create, upload, edit, or delete assets

Patterns#
Scout cannot create new patterns: component patterns, composition patterns, or entry patterns. You must create the initial pattern before Scout can help refine it.
Fields and parameters#
Scout cannot edit these specific field and parameter types:
- Block type fields/parameters
- Image URL fields
Advanced features and configuration#
Several advanced features require manual configuration:
- Cannot create complex signals, audiences, intents, or quirks (only simple query string signals)
- Cannot set visibility rules on component instances
- Cannot edit conditional values on parameters or fields (only default values can be edited)
- Cannot manage or change data sources, data types, or data resources

- Cannot create new Loop component instances
Project and team management#
Administrative tasks remain manual:
