Previewing entries
Preview your entries to see how they will look and behave in compositions before publishing. This ensures your content works correctly across different contexts and displays as expected.
How entry previews work#
Entry previews open your entry in a nested composition editor, showing exactly how the entry will appear when used in actual compositions. This live preview helps you validate content and design choices before going live.
Key benefits:
- See content in its final context
- Test different screen sizes and viewports
- Validate content without publishing
- Preview draft content alongside published content
Configuring entry previews#
Entry preview functionality is configured at the content type level.
For step-by-step instructions on setting up previews, see the content types documentation.
Using entry previews#
When editing an entry that has preview configured:
Access preview options: Click the Preview button in the editor controls. If multiple previews are configured, select one from the dropdown.
Access the entry preview dropdown in the entry editor.Handle unsaved changes: If the entry has unsaved changes, you'll be prompted to save them first.
Launch preview editor: The nested composition editor opens, showing your entry within the configured composition.
Customize preview experience:
- Enable preview mode to hide editing UI
- Use the locale switcher to see how the entry looks in different locales
- Try different preview viewports to test various screen sizes
- Modify any dynamic preview values that would affect the entry's appearance in the preview
- Unpin the structure panel to maximize the preview area

- Return to editing: Click X in the left corner of the nested composition editor to return to the entry editor.
Entry previews automatically use unpublished content mode when enabled, allowing you to preview draft content.
Unpublished content mode#
Unpublished content mode enables content authors to preview and test draft entries in the visual editor before making them live. This powerful feature allows you to see how unpublished entries interact with other content, ensuring everything works as expected before publishing.
Note: This mode is disabled by default and must be enabled in the data source settings.
Enabling unpublished content mode#
To enable unpublished content mode:
- Go to Experience > Data types
- Edit the Uniform Content data source
- Check the Enable unpublished mode toggle
